A minor history lesson on the origins of online fuckbois
Some of us were just talking about how (the fetish site) used to be a lot less toxic. Granted, there was always toxicity, but there are a few reasons more specific than just general right-wing misogyny as to why it has become a complete cesspool that emboldens these people.
First of all, the business model there is to profit from the free content we all post. This is why I now have two separate profiles. One of them is for activism and communicating with my friends.
The other is for the more sexy stuff and communicating with my potential clients. But for the most part, I’m at least semi-retired from sex work.
Here are the other laws and dynamics that make being anti-sex work so profitable for the stakeholders of the site:
50 Shades / Christofascism
This one is self-explanatory. It’s about abuse as BDSM. The conflation of these two concepts is far too easy when all you need to do to lineate them is remove the concept of consent.
And that is what the right wing is attempting to do against women and trans people and the United States, as well as making it increasingly difficult for us to resist. The overturning of Roe v Wade was just the first domino to fall.
